Managing video clips in VidSync

Managing video clips in VidSync

If a VidSyncDocument file breaks because you moved one of the video clips it was based on playing, there’s an easy fix. Just use the “Relocate Selected Clip” button located under the “Project” tab, and make sure you align the correct file (left camera vs right camera, for example) with each “Clip” saved in VidSync. Naming the clips in a way that makes this easy (e.g., “Left Camera”) is advised.

Video file compatibility

VidSync can work with any video files you can open in Quicktime (the main Mac OS video player) on the same computer, because it’s using Quicktime internally for video playback.

Using multiple computers

If you happen to be switching between multiple computers while working on the same VidSync project and with the same video files, here are some helpful tips.

1. You can keep your saved VidSyncDocument (.vsd) files in a folder sychronized by a cloud service like Dropbox across your different computers.

2. If you keep the video files in identical paths on both computers, you won’t need to re-locate the clips every time you switch computers. You might do this by working from the same (hopefully fast) external hard drive on both systems. However, you can also emulate this — using external hard drives or your computer’s internal drive — by storing your video files in disk images with the same name on each system. Then you can mount the disk image and always find the files in something like /Volumes/MyVideoDiskImage/MyVideo-Left.mp4 no matter which computer you’re on.
